Ayurvedic medicines and treatments now emerge as a most important scenario in world market even though our contribution in world market is only 2 percent (Rs.4.50 million U S dollars against Rs.245 million U S dollars) as against 16 percent for China. By concerted efforts in research and development of medicinal plants it is possible to create awareness in scientific cultivation, it’s processing and marketing and there by increasing the export earnings substantially. As per the report of World Health Organization, India can increase the export at least 8 times more than what is now exporting after fulfilling the domestic demands. The main lacuna in this regard is the lack of technical know how of scientific management, non availability of better quality planting material, processing and value added products and competitive marketing in domestic and international markets.
